Educational Disclaimer: This website provides educational content only. We are not a crowdfunding platform and do not handle any funds or investments.
CrowdfundCanada Educational Resource Hub was founded in 2018 by a group of researchers, educators, and former fintech professionals in Toronto who recognized a significant gap in accessible, unbiased information about crowdfunding in the Canadian context. While crowdfunding platforms themselves were growing rapidly, reliable educational resources that explained how these platforms operated, what regulations applied, and what risks participants faced remained scarce and fragmented.
The founding team had collectively spent over two decades working across financial services, technology startups, and academic institutions. They observed that many aspiring campaign creators launched projects without understanding fee structures, legal obligations, or fulfillment logistics. Similarly, backers often contributed to campaigns without fully appreciating the risks involved, particularly in equity crowdfunding where capital loss is a real possibility.
Our response was to build a comprehensive educational platform that distills complex regulatory, financial, and operational information into clear, structured content that anyone can understand. From the beginning, our guiding principle has been strict independence: we do not operate a crowdfunding platform, we do not accept or manage any investment funds, and we do not provide personalized financial advice.
Since 2018, we have grown from a simple blog into a multi-faceted educational resource serving students, entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, policy researchers, and curious members of the public across every Canadian province and territory.
What began as a research project at a Toronto university has evolved into one of Canada's most comprehensive crowdfunding education resources, reaching over 50,000 learners annually through our website, courses, and webinars.
Every piece of content we create is guided by a clear mission: to improve crowdfunding literacy across Canada so that participants can make informed, confident decisions whether they are launching campaigns or supporting them.
To provide Canadians with accessible, accurate, and independent educational resources on crowdfunding models, platforms, regulations, and best practices. We aim to bridge the knowledge gap between the rapid growth of crowdfunding and the public's understanding of how it works.
We believe that well-informed participants create healthier crowdfunding ecosystems. When creators understand their obligations and backers understand the risks, the entire community benefits from greater trust, higher quality campaigns, and better outcomes for everyone involved.
We maintain strict editorial independence. Our content is never influenced by crowdfunding platforms, financial institutions, or campaign creators. We have no financial interest in whether anyone launches or backs a campaign. Our sole objective is accurate education.
We are fully transparent about our revenue model, editorial process, and limitations. When we reference data, we cite sources. When our knowledge has boundaries, we say so and direct readers to authoritative resources like provincial securities commissions.
All content undergoes a thorough editorial review process. We consult with securities lawyers, financial educators, and industry professionals to verify that our educational materials reflect current regulations and practices accurately.
Complex financial and legal topics should not be locked behind jargon. We write in clear, plain language suitable for readers who may have no prior background in finance or securities law, while still maintaining the depth that advanced learners expect.
Our team combines academic expertise, industry experience, and a shared passion for financial education. We come from diverse backgrounds in law, finance, technology, and education, united by the belief that knowledge empowers better decision-making.
